12/22 Prompt: Travel. How did you travel in 2010? How and/or where would you like to travel next year? via Tara Hunt.

Hot damn, this year was about travel. Besides moving to Siem Reap, I was lucky enough to travel within Cambodia to Phnom Penh, Takeo Province and Lazy Beach (off of Sihanoukville). As a bonus, I went to Bangkok three times. Yes, this was a good year for travel.

I do have my eyes on a few places I’d like to go in 2011. Let’s start with places in Cambodia. Kate, who I’ve known since we were 13 & freshmen, is thinking about visiting Cambodia (& me!) again in 2011. Since she’s already seen the temples, I think a beach vacation is in order! This gives me an excuse to go back to Lazy Beach and to head to Kampot and Kep, which I’m desperate to visit. Also, I’d like to take her to our field office and perhaps swing through Phnom Penh to see S-21 and the Killing Fields. The problem with living in a place is that you never make time to do the tourist things.

Internationally, I’d like to explore more of Thailand, namely Chiang Mai and Koh Chang. My dear friend Ines has been traveling for a decade and has some amazing stories about the beaches of Thailand – places where you can stay in a bungalow on the water for less than $10 per night. Naturally, I want to go!

I started with the travel that’s most likely to happen, here’s where I daydream a bit. I want to go back to India: Bombay, Agra and Rajasthan. Other spots on my radar: Laos, the Philippines, Kuala Lumpur and Hong Kong.

I’ve already set the goal that 2011 will be the year I tackle my fear of traveling alone. So, it seems that much of this wishlist will be within my reach.
