12/9 Prompt: Party. What social gathering rocked your socks off in 2010? Describe the people, music, food, drink, clothes, shenanigans. via Shauna Reid.
I purposely postponed this prompt. I celebrated my 28th birthday on the 11th of December. I had a hunch that it would be my favorite party of the year and my instinct was right.
Don’t get me wrong, I’ve attended some fabulous parties this year. A very fashionable New Years Eve. Saloth’s 2-day wedding. Conor’s 90s themed going away party. The 4th of July barbeque Joellen and I hosted on our rooftop. Will & Bonnie’s three-part birthday extravaganza. Thanksgiving Dinner at John & Narissa’s, one of the best I’ve ever had! Other dinners on our roof for no particular reason except to enjoy the company of good friends. It’s been a great year for parties.
But, I love my birthday. That’s right, I love a day that fetes me. Selfish or egotistical or narcissistic as it may be, I welcome the excuse to bring my friends together for a party and enjoy their company.
This year, I wanted a smallish dinner party with close friends. Joellen and Leah are amazingly good friends who helped set up the dinner reservation, pre-ordered a meal fit for kings & queens, made cute Christmas themed place cards, coordinated a gluten-free cake (orange mousse & chocolate!) and welcomed everyone with a champagne toast and candy cane!
Seriously, it was amazing. We ate. We talked. We laughed.
After dinner we headed over to Miss Wong’s where we enjoyed more cocktails and the company of more friends. We closed out the night with a bucket and a few dances at Angkor Wat?.
On my birthday I felt blessed to have such an amazing group of friends in my life, both near and far. I am grateful for the new connections I’ve made in Siem Reap and the friendships from home that have flourished despite moving across the globe.
