#Reverb10: Moment, Alive

12/3 Prompt: Moment. Pick one moment during which you felt most alive this year. Describe it in vivid detail (texture, smells, voices, noises, colors). via Ali Edwards.

So the prompt said to chose one moment, but that’s not where my reflection took me. As I lay on the massage table this afternoon, I pondered when I felt most alive this year. And instead of coming up with one moment, I found three criteria.

1. I feel alive when I’m with the people I love.

Dinner parties on my rooftop, savoring good food and conversation. On the couch of my best girls talking about the future, the present, life plans and the paths we’re taking. (Thank you to Delia, Natasha & Paige for hosting me and sharing these conversations in July.) Surrounded by my family, especially Sunday dinners. Loving friends and famliy light me up.

2. I feel alive when I’m in my creative flow.

The muses accept my invitation and what needs to be written bubbles to the surface. During those ingenious interludes where I solve design problems that have been nagging at me. I feel on top of my game when I’m synthesizing loads of information from diverse sources and making connections. Engaging in my creative process makes me feel vital.

3. I feel alive when I’m distilling the truth.

To find the shortest distance between what you say or write and what you actually mean. The afternoon I helped a friend write a letter of introduction for her company that exuded the passion she has for her work. When I’m listening to scattered ideas and find the thread that holds them all together. To clarify. To divine. To get to the kernel of truth –the marrow of a matter—is to be awakened.

These are lovely reflections and ones we can all truly benefit from. This is what happens with universal truths.

I’m blushing! What a lovely and kind response. Thank you. xoxo.
